Sonia Keshwar

Sonia Keshwar holds the role of Vice President, Special Initiatives at OMERS, the pension plan serving Ontario municipal employees. Prior to joining OMERS in 2018, Sonia was a regulator with IIROC, holding varied roles over the course of nine and a half years, including operational leadership of a new regulatory function. She is a practicing lawyer with experience as a General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, and practiced law at Torys LLP and McMillan.

Sonia is a strong advocate for community engagement and is active in her community. She is a member of the Board of Directors and Corporate Secretary of the Children’s Book Bank and Literacy Foundation and is a member of its Executive and Audit Committee, and the Governance Committee.

Sonia speaks about leadership, governance, legal and compliance innovation and integrity. She is an active mentor, coach, and sponsor, and is involved in initiatives to empower the next cohort, and initiatives to develop people for board membership.

Sonia holds LL.B. and B.C.L. degrees from the McGill Faculty of Law and completed undergraduate studies at Queen’s University.

Sonia is a member of Governance Professionals of Canada.
